Bryan Stirewalt will speak on a panel at the MENA Regulatory Summit on 25 October 2022 in Abu Dhabi on “Virtual Assets—The Opportunity and Risks.” In this session, the panelists will explore the key opportunities and risks in virtual assets, such as the rapid rise of decentralized financial (DeFi) lending platforms, which are unregulated and yet have tens of billions under management; whether the huge yields offered on such platforms are sustainable; and the case for stablecoins to potentially make local fiat currencies obsolete in many emerging markets.
The panel will also discuss why and how cryptocurrency is used to commit crime and the ability to detect the vulnerabilities illicit actors can capitalize on. Tracking cryptocurrency that has been laundered between jurisdictions and recovering assets related to cryptocurrency will also be addressed.
