A managing director in K2 Integrity’s Financial Crimes Risk Management practice, Kelly Cooper works with clients to identify and mitigate financial crime risks, manage change, and support compliant business growth.
Before joining K2 Integrity, Kelly was the global head of KYC policy and strategy at JPMorganChase. In this role, she managed a global team that continuously maintained and modernized the KYC requirements for all lines of business and jurisdictions to care for new laws, regulations and regulatory expectations, business acquisitions and growth, and emerging financial crime risks. This role also entailed working closely with stakeholders in all lines of business to provide oversight and advisory related to the interpretation and implementation of all KYC policy requirements.
Prior to joining JPMorganChase, Kelly was a senior leader in AML compliance risk management at Citigroup, holding multiple roles within the BSA office, line of business compliance, and regulatory program management. In these roles, Kelly streamlined global governance processes, advised on high-risk client relationships, directed strategic KYC and transaction monitoring initiatives, supported business implementation of regulatory changes, ensured successful execution of regulatory commitments and audits, and developed and managed staffing and budget processes for Citi’s AML program.
Kelly is known for driving regulatory reform related to enhancing the effectiveness of AML compliance programs. This has included setting reform agendas and drafting frameworks, position papers, and consultation responses on behalf of large banks for topics such as information sharing, financial inclusion, and the implementation of laws such as AML Act of 2020 and The Corporate Transparency Act. Kelly is regularly a task force member and speaker at key conferences to provide insight on how banks can most be most effective at implementing regulatory changes and managing financial crime risks.
Kelly holds an M.A. in financial integrity from Case Western Reserve University School of Law’s Financial Integrity Institute, and a B.A. in anthropology from the College of William and Mary. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a board member of the ACAMS New York Chapter.
