In “War in Ukraine Threatens US Interests in the Western Hemisphere” (The Hill, 6 March 2022), Elias Alfille comments that sanctions regimes in Latin America are less advanced compared to those in the United States or European Union. The ability of Latin American governments to control how much individual citizens trade with Russia is limited, therefore lacking the “capacity to impose significant economic sanctions of geopolitical consequence.”
