As part of a panel hosted by the National Press Foundation, “Tracing Russian Assets From Switzerland to Singapore: Tips from Former CIA and Other Pros” (20 April 2022), Juan Zarate answered questions on the history of the U.S. sanctions regime, and how it has expanded from a limited and targeted approach to a more wide-ranging program. He also explained the differences between asset seizure and asset forfeiture.
