In “Deaths at Airbnb Rentals Put Spotlight on Safety and Security” (USA Today, 11 Dec. 2018), Jordan Arnold, head of K2 Intelligence’s Private Client Services and Strategic Risk and Security practices, comments on safety and security actions that can be implemented by vacation rental websites, such as Airbnb. In addition to requiring hosts to make inexpensive investments in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, Jordan notes, “Airbnb or any other online travel agency can do background checks and assess risks but it’s difficult to prevent all attacks.”
