Max Andonov is a senior director in K2 Integrity’s Financial Crimes Risk Management practice. He works with financial institution clients to review and improve their financial crime policies and practices and ensure compliance with U.S. and global requirements, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations. He advises clients on risk exposure, controls effectiveness, and emerging issues, delivering independent analysis and actionable recommendations to support informed decision-making. He also helps oversee the design and enhancement of a risk-based control framework for a cross-border payment review project, establishing policy standards and escalation protocols to mitigate operational and financial crimes risk.
Before joining K2 Integrity, Max was a director in Morgan Stanley’s Global Financial Crimes Advisory practice, supporting the investment banking and sales and trading divisions. In that role, he advised on emerging financial crimes and reputational risks, guided risk mitigation for complex transactions and high-profile engagements. He also helped enhance the firm’s risk management framework, led the project management of a centralized due diligence database, and monitored key AML, sanctions, and financial crimes regulatory developments.
Earlier in his career, Max worked at Kroll managing business intelligence, reputational, and compliance risk investigations for global technology and financial services clients. He also developed training materials and supported process improvement initiatives.
Max holds an M.S. in international affairs from the University of Texas at Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs and a B.S. in international politics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. He is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and is fluent in English, French, and Bulgarian with limited working proficiency in Spanish and Italian.
