Alexandru Cosma is a director in K2 Integrity’s Financial Crimes Risk Management practice, based in New York. With more than 15 years of financial industry experience, Alex specializes in various aspects of anti-money laundering (AML) compliance, including know your customer (KYC), enhanced due diligence (EDD), transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity reporting (SAR) programs designed to comply with relevant regulatory requirements, such as those outlined by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the USA PATRIOT Act, and the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYSDFS).
Alex assists K2 Integrity’s international financial institution clients with conducting large-scale historical transaction reviews (lookbacks) to identify potentially suspicious activity that warrants regulatory filing with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). He leads teams of analysts who investigate cases of potentially suspicious cross-border transactional activity flagged by transaction monitoring software, trains analysts, and conducts QA reviews of AML case investigations.
Prior to joining K2 Integrity, Alex worked for Commerzbank AG in various roles within its KYC/AML group. He managed the onboarding of new corporate clients, conducting periodic reviews, documenting material changes, and performing product/location maintenance (PLM) in conjunction with client owners/business units; and analyzed and validated the completeness and accuracy of KYC documents. He also performed adverse news screenings, acquired further information, performed escalations as required, and determined the Customer Risk Rating (CRR) based on global CRR methodology.
Before Commerzbank AG, Alex worked for JPMorgan Chase, where he developed, managed, and optimized processes related to securities market data via the firm’s Broker-Dealer Active System (BDAS).
Alex holds an M.B.A. in finance from the Baruch College Zicklin School of Business, an M.S. in banking management from Romania-American University, and a B.S. in international business and economics from the Academy of Economic Studies. He is fluent in German and Romanian.
